  • Evaluation Process:
    • Tryouts are structured to allow our coaching staff to evaluate athletes in a competitive environment.
    • Coaches will spend the majority of the session evaluating rather than instructing.
    • Players will be evaluated based on technical skill level, physical abilities (height, vertical jump, agility, movement), game performance, attitude, and coachability.
  • What to Bring:
    • Water bottle
    • Athletic shoes & knee pads
    • Tryout t-shirt (Day 2)

    • In 26-27, GVC will operate under a Master Coaching model to ensure consistency and quality across all teams
    • Our Master Coaches are Coach G (Club Director) and Coach Corky (Recruiting Coordinator)
    • Master Coaches will develop and implement practice plans to ensure all coaches are aligned on training objectives and structure and every athlete receives consistent, high-level instruction across all teams
    • 1s Teams: 2 out of 3 weekly practices led by Master Coaches
    • 2s Teams: 1 out of 2 weekly practices led by Master Coaches
  • Roster Structure:
    • 11–12 travel players per team
    • 1–2 practice players per team (Practice players train with the team and may be called upon for tournament participation as needed)
  • Offer Process:
    • Most offers are sent after Tryout Day #2 (very few offers are made after Day #1)
    • The full team selection process may take 5–7 days following the SECOND tryout
    • Players will have 48 hours to accept or decline an offer – timely responses are extremely important and help us communicate efficiently with other families
    • All families will receive communication, regardless of the outcome
    • Players who are not placed on a team are encouraged to continue training with us through our Winter and Spring clinic programs, which provide excellent development opportunities
  • In-person attendance is strongly preferred for all tryouts, as it allows our coaches to better evaluate each athlete’s skills, communication, and overall court presence. If you are unable to attend in person, we do accept video tryouts. ONLINE REGISTRATION IS STILL REQUIRED!
  • Email 3-5 min highlight video AND at least one full set of continuous play to greenwichvolleyballclub@gmail.com BY 8/5 FOR U16-U18.
  • Financial assistance is available for those in need.
  • The Triumph Fund will accept applications for the 26-27 Club Season starting July 1st.
  • All requirements must be fulfilled BY 8/5 for U16-U18 and BY 10/25 for U11-U15.
  • Please visit the Financial Aid page for more information.

Do players need to attend both tryout dates?

No, but we strongly recommend attending both sessions so our staff has the best chance of evaluating them.

What age group should I register for?

When will we hear back after tryouts?

Most initial offers are sent the day after the second tryout. The full selection process may take up to 5–7 days, and all families will receive communication regardless of the outcome.

Is playing time guaranteed?

Playing time varies by team level. Some teams operate on a merit-based system, while others provide more balanced opportunities. Please refer to our Team Information section for more details.

Playing time is generally more evenly distributed, especially as athletes continue to develop. That said, it is not always equal, as coaches may adjust lineups based on effort, improvement, and team needs.
